Thanks to fund balance monies earmarked by the Provost and Vice President for Information Technology
supplemented by student technology funds, Academic Technology is pleased to announce the upcoming
arrival of the Instructional Technology Classroom Unit to Western Kentucky University classrooms.
These units, one for each college plus a demo unit for the Faculty Technology Center, were ordered
on March 12. We expect the various pieces to arrive late in March. We are not sure how long it will
take all of the pieces to arrive at Western, but most of the components were in stock at the various
distributors when we ordered them.
Once we put these carts together, test them, and find them to be operational, we will deliver one unit to
the Dean's offices in each of the four colleges for assignment. We hope to have this process completed
by the beginning of Summer Semester 1999.
These units represent an added commitment by the University to support teaching with technology across the
campus. We feel that we have assembled the best components based on current research on teaching
methods using presentational technologies. We also researched the quality of the components. For
example, the Kodak digital projector was placed alongside Epson, 3m, and Proxima models with similar
features for comparison. The picture from the Kodak, projecting both VHS and computer screens was
noticeably clearer. We feel that this unit is the best value for the money we have spent, because each
of the components offer superior output along with a history of quality service and support.
If you have additional questions about this unit, contact
Allan Heaps (x2914), Instructional Technology Coordinator, or
Jim Sanders (x4278), Director of Academic Technology.
